Samsung E530

Samsung has always been admired for manufacturing handsets which are sleek and attract attention of many people. We can say that they produce one of the best clamshells than any other company in the world. The first exclusive woman phone from Samsung was A400. Samsung E530's body is made up of plastic and has two different color tones. The sides of the phone are toned with glossy white color while the middle body is of pink color. The dimensions of this phone are 86x43x26.3 mm and it weighs 85 grams. If you compare this phone with other devices, you won't find much difference.

The external screen's first two lines has a resolution of 16x96 pixels which shows the time, battery charge and signal level. The remaining of the screen has a 65k OLED screen with a resolution of 80x96 pixels. Samsung's main target for the phone are women. Keeping them in mind the edging of the internal screen is of mirror but can't change itself to a mirror lik T500. The internal screen resolution is 176x220 pixels with 262k colors.

The memory available for Mp3 is 82 MB which can be enough if you rip the songs at 64KBps. The equalizer is animated and is entertaining in nature. The presets of an equalizer are classic, rock, jazz and normal. There is an option to create custom playlists.

Samsung D600 Review

Samsung D600

Samsung, better known to produce charming and attractive looking handsets. Though it lacked features which Nokia gave at the same price. But when Samsung launched its D500, they were into some serious business. Its first slider phone D410 which failed to create an impact in the mobile market, they rolled out D500 which went onto be given as The World's Best Phone.

The World's Best Phone though had some drawbacks like limited memory. But Samsung has eliminated them too by launching the latest D600. D600 is totally different from D500 in features and somewhat similar in looks. D500 was aimed at business class people and same is the case for D600 too.

Picsel Viewer
This is the main highlight of the phone. You would be wondering Picsel Viewer is all about. Well its not a Image Viewer but an application which is capable of opening MS Office files, PDF files, graphical and video formats. The application is so fast in opening files that even a 20 MB PDF file will just take around 2 seconds to open. Its just a viewer so no editing capabilities. Picsel viewer also allows an image may be sent to external sources, for instance, a TV-set. Besides viewing doucments on TV, you can view videos, photos or play games if you want to.

Phonebook
Phonebook is placed at the bottom right of the phone. The memory for storing contacts is 1000 and each contact has an option to enter five different nubmers (mobile, office, home, fax, other) which makes the capacity to store 5000 numbers excluding SIM card capacity. Any music file as well as composed MP3's can be chosen as a ringtone for the contact. SIM-card contacts can be moved to phone memory but not vice versa.

Messages

SMS
Sending different type of messages is done through separate submenus. The memory for SMS messages is 200 plus SIM-card capacity. D600 supports Enhanced Messaging Service (EMS) which is compatible with Nokia Smart Messaging. The encoding feature is good as user can choose different encodings like GSM or Unicode. Another great feature is that of Black List. A number in the black list cannot send you a message. Upto 10 numbers can be stored in the black list.

MMS
There is no size restriction to receive a MMS whereas the MMS to be sent should not exceed more than 295 KB.

E-mail
POP3/SMTP boxes and several tracking files are supported. The attachments supported are only GIF & JPEG files. The attachment is restricted to 300 KB.

Call Records
Call Records saves upto 20 missed, received or dialled calls. The call records menu is improved compared to D500.

Settings
The traditional menu in which many changes can be made in display and also in sound.

Applications

The first submenu in Applications is the MP3 Player. It is an integrated player. Files can be transferred via Bluetooth or any other synchronization program.

Second submenu is of Voice Recorder. There is no limit of files which can be recorded. The duration can be set by a user which can vary from 30 seconds to 1 hour. It lacks recording of a conversation as it works only in standby mode.

Next is the Java World. It has a memory of 4 MB which is allocated solely to Java apps and games. MIDP 2.0 version allows the use of the graphic reach and three-dimensional games. The three pre-installed games are Forgotten Warrior, Freekick, ArchAngel.

The other basic applications are World Time, Alarm and a Calculator, Converter, Countdown timer & a Stopwatch.

Funbox
The funbox has all the files such as music, images, videos and sounds. Downloaded files are also kept here.

Organizer
D600 can store upto 400 types of different events such as meeting, affair, anniversary and others.

WAP
There is wap browser version 2.0 similar to some phones by Nokia and Sony Ericsson using HTTP protocol.

Bluetooth
D600 wont be able to send a contact or a image until the phone is paired. However, Bluetooth is better than in Nokia phones, Siemens but not so good than in Sony Ericsson.

Camera
D600 is equipped with a 2MP Camera which supports a max. resolution of 1600x1200 pixels. D600 supports effects as Gray scale, Negative, Sepia, Emboss, Sketch, Antique, Moonlight, Fog.

The Last Call
Picsel Viewer, image transmission to the external sources are unique features of the phone. The expansion of memory makes a good choice for a mp3 player unlike D500. Due to the D500 already making an impact in the market, D600 can also be an instant hit. But a competition can be expected by Nokia which will be launching Nokia 6270 in the last quarter of 2005.

Samsung D410 Review

Samsung is no doubt one of the leading mobile phone makers in the world. And with this phone it will narrow its gap among the other competitors. Its the latest Samsung's D410. The first time I saw it (in the TV commercial), I was almost like ''What a phone?''. Yes, this phone contains the Samsung's latest innovation Slider Technology.

Its priced at around 21k INR which tells us that its not a phone for basic users. You must have a deep pocket to buy this phone and to carry it too. Yes, its heavy and looks bulky too which is quite masculine. D410 can show upto 2,62,000 colours and supports 8 line display. It has a fully rotational camera and has an IrDA support.

So the main attraction of this phone is that it slides. No real effort has to be made, you can open the phone with one hand. The Slide rails which can be seen on the back are made of Plastic. You can answer the call without opening the phone, but you have to slide (open) the phone if you want to make a call as the screen covers the whole keypad.

Menu: It can be presented by two ways i.e. by page view or bar-stlye. It means that you can view it horizontally or vertically. Its like the Start Menu you have in Windows XP.

Phonebook: Phonebook can store upto 1000 numbers alongwith other details like fax, email etc. (excluding the SIM memory). You can sort your contacts by group-wise. 10 groups can be created.

Messages: You can store upto 200 SMS messages in the phone memory. This time Samsung has given MMS as separate menu item. You can create a MMS whose limit should not exceed 100kb while incoming MMSes should not exceed more than 45kb.

E-mail: It also has a feature to send and receive e-mails if your service provider supports it.

Call List: It can store upto 20 entries for each list.

Sound: Ringtones contains 64-bit polyphony which is uncommon in other phones.

Phone Settings: The normal features but IrDA is also included under this menu. The wallpapers are taken from National Geographic.

Organizer: It is the traditional one but with a new feature of Dictaphone. You can record conversations (limit is 5) but the length limit is 30 seconds.

FunBox: As this phone supports JAVA it contains four games. Along with sub-menu for internet and pictures and melodies.

Camera: Camera in D410 is a VGA camera. You can zoom (upto 8x), change resolution. It also has a Multishot function with two speeds (normal and fast). The camera allows you to capture video clips of maximum 15 seconds and that too without audio.

And finally the...

Memory: It has 3mb for pictures and videos. 700kb for MMS, 1mb for e-mail and 600kb for JAVA applications and games.

Samsung X100 Review

After the launch of Samsung C100, Samsung comes with another model almost same in features as of in C100. Though it does not support infrared (IrDA) compared to C100 but I think its the best phone in its category. The company has targeted mainly the youths and also suits the adults. Its rival model is Sony Ericsson’s T230 which is also ranged in between 6-7k.

The Samsung X100 comes in the same old traditional colour of Samsung phones i.e. Silver edging with blue cover. The plus point of buying Samsung phones is it comes in 65k colours whereas most of the Nokia colour phones have 4096 colour display. X100 supports GPRS and MMS.

Phonebook can store upto 1000 phone numbers in the phone memory and 5 numbers and an e-mail for each contact. You can also assign a picture for a specific contact. However, you can add pictures which are pre-installed in the phone memory and cannot add pictures from the MMS messages.

Messages are separated from in two sub-categories SMS and MMS. Its SMS storing capacity is upto 200 messages and each MMS message size could not exceed more than 80 kb. In the Indian version people can also SMS in Hindi.

Call Register can save upto 20 missed, 20 received and 20 dialled.

Memory is the plus point of this mid-ranged phone. It has a memory of 9mb which is more than enough and another 600 kb for Java based applications.

Games are included in the Java World menu like Snow Ball Fight and BubbleSmile which can be deleted from the memory. But if you buy from grey market you can get more three games which cant be deleted from the memory.
